Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) >
Description.
Provide specialist perioperative care across NHS theatres, supporting anaesthetics, surgery, and post-operative recovery. Deliver safe patient preparation, intraoperative assistance, and post-operative monitoring, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to maintain high clinical and safety standards throughout the surgical pathway.
Key Requirements.
Experience.
Minimum 1–2 years’ post-registration experience working as an ODP in anaesthetics, scrub, or recovery within NHS theatres.
Skilled in assisting with airway management, anaesthetic equipment, surgical procedures, and post-operative patient monitoring.
Experience supporting elective and emergency surgical lists, working closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, and theatre teams.
Familiar with theatre safety standards, WHO surgical checklists, and perioperative governance requirements.
Qualifications.
Diploma of Higher Education or BSc in Operating Department Practice (or recognised equivalent).
Full HCPC registration as an Operating Department Practitioner.
CPD in anaesthetics, scrub skills, recovery care, and perioperative safety.
Compliance and Vetting.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
Full identity and right-to-work verification.
Two recent clinical references.
Up-to-date NHS Statutory and Mandatory Training.
Immunisation compliance for theatre and clinical environments.
Full HCPC registration and fitness-to-practise check.
Verification of qualifications and employment history.
