Description.

Provide specialist perioperative care across NHS theatres, supporting anaesthetics, surgery, and post-operative recovery. Deliver safe patient preparation, intraoperative assistance, and post-operative monitoring, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to maintain high clinical and safety standards throughout the surgical pathway.

Key Requirements.

Experience.

  • Minimum 1–2 years’ post-registration experience working as an ODP in anaesthetics, scrub, or recovery within NHS theatres.

  • Skilled in assisting with airway management, anaesthetic equipment, surgical procedures, and post-operative patient monitoring.

  • Experience supporting elective and emergency surgical lists, working closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, and theatre teams.

  • Familiar with theatre safety standards, WHO surgical checklists, and perioperative governance requirements.

Qualifications.

  • Diploma of Higher Education or BSc in Operating Department Practice (or recognised equivalent).

  • Full HCPC registration as an Operating Department Practitioner.

  • CPD in anaesthetics, scrub skills, recovery care, and perioperative safety.

Compliance and Vetting.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

  • Full identity and right-to-work verification.

  • Two recent clinical references.

  • Up-to-date NHS Statutory and Mandatory Training.

  • Immunisation compliance for theatre and clinical environments.

  • Full HCPC registration and fitness-to-practise check.

  • Verification of qualifications and employment history.
