Description.

Provide specialist critical care pharmacy services within NHS Intensive Care Units and High Dependency Units. Support safe prescribing, optimise complex medicines therapy, contribute to organ-support management, and deliver advanced clinical input for critically ill adults requiring high-acuity care.

Key Requirements.

Experience.

  • Minimum 2 years’ post-registration experience in critical care, ICU, HDU, or advanced hospital clinical pharmacy.

  • Skilled in managing complex and high-risk medicines, including sedation, vasopressors, antimicrobials, renal replacement therapy, and nutrition support.

  • Experience participating in daily ICU ward rounds, MDT discussions, and escalation-of-care planning.

  • Familiar with critical care guidelines, organ support pathways, and electronic prescribing systems used in ICU settings.

Qualifications.

  • MPharm degree (or recognised equivalent) with full GPhC registration.

  • Postgraduate diploma or certificate in Clinical Pharmacy desirable.

  • Postgraduate training or modules in critical care pharmacy preferred.

  • CPD in ICU therapeutics, antimicrobial stewardship, organ support, and advanced clinical practice.

Compliance and Vetting.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

  • Full identity and right-to-work verification.

  • Two recent professional references.

  • Up-to-date NHS Statutory and Mandatory Training.

  • Immunisation compliance for hospital clinical environments.

  • Full GPhC registration and fitness-to-practise check.

  • Verification of qualifications and employment history.
